At Legacy Lockers, we build more than just locker rooms. Sometimes we’re asked to provide our high quality wood lockers to theaters, colleges, and other venues that host artists, performers and celebrities. No matter who your clientele may be, it’s imperative that they have the proper amenities to keep them comfortable so they can focus on preparing for their performance. Whether you’re hosting presidential debates or elementary school theater troupes, luxury lockers from Legacy Lockers will make your guests feel like the VIPs they are.
- Make sure you get any special requests as soon as possible. You don’t want to be scrambling last minute for a bowl of green-only M&M’s. Sound crazy? There are actually more specific tour riders out there. Steve Martin’s backstage demands indicate that he is, indeed, a wild and crazy guy. Among other things, he requests 65,000 holistic aromatherapy candles, 24 area dancers costumed as scientists “just for fun”, and blue-tinged cold cuts. Obviously, these are all a joke, but they’re a good reminder to consider your guests’ suggestions while keeping a good-natured sense of humor. On the more serious side of things, Beyoncé requires a blender, for making smoothies, and for her room to be kept at 72 degrees. While most people don’t have such specific drink requirements, having bottled water available to your guests isn’t a bad idea.
- Should a green room be green? Some say green walls can facilitate makeup application by ensuring performers will look good under the greenish stage lights. We think that’s a bit of a stretch, but it’s still nice to have some complimentary wipes or washcloths, to help with makeup removal. Others say the green color relaxes performers. This may be true, but there are also several alternatives. Providing relaxing music and herbal tea are both great ways to help nervous performers take the edge off their stage fright. Also, whether you’re building a locker room, green room, or changing room, proper seating can go a long way in helping your guests relax. Overall, the only real reason for a green room to be green is if it fits your organization’s style.
- What kind of space should you provide for changing? Some green rooms share space with other activities held at the same facility, while others have multiple changing areas, for privacy. Regardless of which route you choose to go, it’s always good to provide a private room that people can go to for quiet, or to change alone. With the heavy flow of traffic that occurs backstage, it’s also a good idea to have high-quality wood lockers equipped with reprogrammable locks for performers to store a change of clothes, an instrument, holistic candles or whatever else they may need to keep safe and secure while they’re out there breaking a leg (which, by the way, means to take a bow).
